The coatings
What is the difference between ceramic and graphene coating?
Both are GenTek formulations made in Sydney. Ceramic 9H is $795 with a seven-year warranty. Graphene Ultra 10H+ is $995, has graphene in the formulation for a slicker surface and deeper gloss, and carries a lifetime warranty. They are $200 apart.
Which one should I get?
If you're keeping the car, Graphene Ultra. If the car goes back at the end of a lease or you'll sell it inside a few years, Ceramic 9H is the better spend, and we'll say so.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
Ceramic 9H is warranted for seven years and Graphene Ultra 10H+ for the life of the car with its original owner. That is the term GenTek writes on the warranty, not a marketing figure. Both are one application with nothing to top up.
What does a coating actually do?
It bonds to the clear coat and cures into a hard, slick sacrificial layer. Bird and bat droppings, insect etching, UV and tree sap work on that layer instead of the paint. Dirt and water have less to hold on to, so the car washes faster and holds its gloss between washes.
Will a coating stop scratches and stone chips?
No coating is scratch-proof. GenTek coatings resist fine wash swirls and marring, and they enhance long-term gloss. Stone chips and scratches are excluded from every coating warranty on the market, ours included. If you're worried about these, ask about our Scratch & Dent membership.
Can you coat a used car?
Yes. A used car needs more preparation. If the paint needs correction beyond the machine polish that is included, we quote that separately before the work starts.
Does the coating change the colour?
No. It is transparent. It adds depth and gloss, and it shows most on dark colours.
Is paint correction included?
A machine polish is in every coating and every pack. It brings out the full gloss of the paint and the coating then seals the finish in. Paint correction, which removes swirl marks, light scratches and oxidisation, is a separate service, quoted when the car needs it.
Can I apply a ceramic coating myself?
You can buy a consumer kit. The difference is the preparation, which is most of the job: decontamination, clay bar and machine polish before anything goes on. A coating over unprepared paint seals the marks in. GenTek's coatings are applied only by GenTek specialists, and the warranty comes with that.
What do 9H and 10H mean?
Pencil hardness, the scale coating makers use for the cured surface. 9H is the top of the standard pencil scale and 10H+ is GenTek's rating for the graphene formulation. It describes the layer's resistance to marring, not a promise that the paint cannot be scratched.
PPF vs ceramic coating
What is the difference between paint protection film and ceramic coating?
Film, or PPF, is a thick clear urethane sheet cut and fitted to panels. It absorbs stone chips and physical impact. A ceramic or graphene coating is a liquid that bonds to the clear coat, microns thick. It resists chemical and environmental damage, adds gloss and makes washing easier, but it does not stop a stone. They protect against different things.
Which is better, PPF or ceramic coating?
They do different jobs. Film is a thick urethane sheet that absorbs impact. A coating bonds to the clear coat, handles UV, droppings, sap and water spotting, keeps the car glossy and easy to wash, and costs a fraction of film. A coating is what we recommend for most cars. If dents and scratches are the worry, ask about our Scratch & Dent membership.
Can you ceramic coat over PPF?
Yes. A coating over film keeps the film cleaner, adds the water-shedding behaviour film lacks and slows its yellowing. Tell us the car has film when you book so it is prepared the right way.
Does GenTek fit paint protection film?
Yes. While we make and apply our own coatings, we also provide a PPF service if you'd rather have that over a coating. Ask for a quote.
How much does PPF cost compared with a coating?
Film is cut and fitted panel by panel, so a full front in Sydney runs into the thousands and a whole car well beyond that. GenTek Ceramic 9H is $795 and Graphene Ultra 10H+ is $995 for the whole car, preparation included.
The warranty
How long is the warranty?
Ceramic 9H, seven years. Graphene Ultra 10H+, lifetime. Interior protection, ten years. Window tint, lifetime on the film. All active from the day of application.
What does Lifetime mean?
The life of the vehicle while it is owned by the person who bought the coating. It ends if the car is sold or transferred. The full definition is on the warranty page.
Do I need yearly inspections?
No. The warranty is active the moment the job is complete. There are no yearly inspections and no reapplication fees.
What is covered?
Bird and bat droppings, insect etching, UV fading and oxidisation, and tree sap on the paint. Food and drink, sunscreen, makeup, and kid and pet stains on the interior. The exclusions, stone chips and scratches among them, are listed on the warranty page.
Are the wheels warranted?
Alloy wheel protection is in every pack, and it makes brake dust let go with a normal wash. The wheels themselves are not covered by the paint warranty.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell the car?
No. It is written to the original purchaser and ends when the car changes hands. The coating keeps doing its job for the next owner, the warranty does not follow it.
Packs and prices
How much does ceramic coating cost in Sydney?
GenTek Ceramic 9H is $795 including GST for any vehicle size, with the preparation included. The Ceramic Pack, which adds interior and alloy wheel protection, is $1,190.
Do bigger cars cost more?
No. Every price on the site applies to any vehicle size unless your quote says otherwise.
Can I get the coating without a pack?
Yes. Ceramic 9H is $795 and Graphene Ultra 10H+ is $995 on their own, with the preparation included.
What is in every pack?
Decontamination clean, clay bar wash, machine polish, interior protection, alloy wheel protection, the coating and the warranty in writing. Graphene Plus adds window tint. The New Car Pack adds nano ceramic tint and a four-year Scratch & Dent membership.
Why is GenTek cheaper than the dealer's paint protection?
We make the product and apply it ourselves, so there is no distributor's margin and no dealer's margin on top. Dealer protection is usually a sealant applied in a pre-delivery bay and priced into the finance. Ours is a coating with the preparation done, at a price you can read on the website.
Is there a deposit?
Ask us when you book. The price you're quoted is the price you pay.
New cars, used cars and EVs
Should I coat a new car straight away?
Yes. The first few weeks are the best window. The paint has had the least exposure, the preparation is at its lightest, and the coating goes onto the factory finish at its best. Dealer wash marks come out in the machine polish that is included.
Is dealer paint protection the same as a ceramic coating?
Usually not. Dealer protection is often applied quickly in a pre-delivery department, sometimes over paint that has not been prepared, and the product isn't always named. A specialist prepares the paint first, applies a coating they can name, and tells you in writing what it covers.
Can a used car with swirl marks be coated?
Yes, after the machine polish, and after correction if the swirls are deep. We tell you before the work which it needs and what that costs. Coating over swirls seals them in, so we don't do that.
Do electric cars need different paint protection?
No, the paint is the same as any other car. A coating makes a hand wash quick and holds the gloss. Tesla, BYD, Zeekr, Polestar and Jaecoo are regular bookings.
Which colours get the most out of a coating?
Dark colours show the depth first. The gloss reads deeper and the swirls that would have appeared stay away. White and silver show it in how easily they clean. Every colour gets the same protection.
Window tinting
Is window tinting legal in NSW?
Yes, within limits. Front side windows must let at least 35% of light through, rear side windows and the back window at least 20%. The windscreen takes no tint except a band across the top, which we fit if requested. GenTek fits to those rules.
How long does window tint last?
GenTek's film is warranted for life against bubbling, peeling, fading and discolouration. Scratches from seat belts, rings and keys are not film faults and are not covered.
When can I wind the windows down after tinting?
Leave them up for three to five days. The film is still releasing moisture in that time and winding a window down can lift an edge. A little haze in that first week clears as it cures.
Does tint make it harder to see at night?
Legal shades keep the driver's windows lighter for that reason. The rear can be darker because the mirrors do the work back there. If you drive a lot at night, tell us and we'll steer you to a lighter front.
Can I get 5% limo tint?
Not on the front windows of a passenger car. Utes and vans can run darker film behind the driver. We fit what is legal for the vehicle, and we'll say so if what you're asking for isn't.
What is nano ceramic window film?
A film that rejects heat with ceramic particles rather than a metallic layer. It blocks more heat at the same shade, it does not fade to purple, and because there is no metal in it, phone, GPS and toll-tag signals pass straight through. It is the film in the New Car Pack.
Can old tint be removed and replaced?
Yes. Bubbled or purple film comes off, the glass is cleaned back, and new film goes on in the same visit.
Interior protection
Is interior protection worth it?
If the car carries kids, a dog, coffee or sunscreen, yes. It is $695 for the whole cabin with a ten-year warranty against food and drink, sunscreen, makeup, and kid and pet stains, and it is already in every GenTek pack. A new car gets the most out of it, because nothing is set in yet.
What does interior protection cover?
Fabric seats and carpet, leather seats and vinyl trims, each with its own product. The fabric protection coats the fibres, so a spill is easier to clean up, sunscreen and makeup wipe off leather, and vinyl stops holding grime.
Does it change how the leather looks or feels?
No. The leather product protects the surface without changing the look, the feel or the smell. The fabric product is invisible once dry, and the vinyl product leaves a clean matte finish, not a shine.
How do I clean a protected interior?
Wipe spills when you see them and vacuum as normal. Use a mild interior cleaner and avoid bleach and solvents. There is nothing to reapply and nothing to inspect.
Can it be done on a used car?
Yes. The seats and trim are cleaned first, and we'll tell you if a stain is already set. Anything present before the application is not covered.
Dash cams
Is a dash cam legal in Australia?
Yes. The camera must not obstruct the driver's view, which is why we mount it behind the mirror, and the wiring must not interfere with airbags or controls. Recording on public roads is legal.
Will a dash cam drain the battery?
Not when it is hardwired properly. The camera is wired through a kit with a low-voltage cut-off, so parking mode records what happens around the car and shuts off before the battery gets low.
What is parking mode?
The camera keeps watch while the car is parked and locks a clip if something hits it. It needs constant power, which is why GenTek hardwires every dash cam rather than plugging it into the lighter socket.
How long is footage kept?
The card records in a loop, so the oldest clips are overwritten as it fills. An incident locks its clip automatically, and you save anything you want to keep to your phone through the app.
Does footage help with an insurance claim?
Yes. A time-stamped recording with GPS position and speed settles most disputes about fault quickly.
What does a dash cam cost?
Pricing depends on the camera you choose and the car it goes in, so it is quoted on request. Every camera comes with a 128GB SD card.
Do I need a backup battery for the dash cam?
On most EVs and hybrids, yes, if you want parking mode. They go into hibernation within about half an hour of being switched off, so a backup battery is what keeps the camera recording while the car is parked.
Washing and looking after the finish
How soon can I wash the car after coating?
The coating is cured when you get the keys. Give it a week before the first proper wash if you can; a rinse with plain water is fine before that. After the first week, wash as normal.
How should I wash a coated car?
Use a pressure washer to remove the loose dirt first, then a two-bucket hand wash with car shampoo and a clean microfibre mitt, top to bottom, wheels with their own mitt. Dry with a plush microfibre towel rather than letting it air dry. A foam pre-wash makes it safer again.
How often should I wash it?
A car parked outside, weekly or fortnightly. A car garaged overnight, every two to three weeks is usually enough. Remove bird droppings, sap and insects when you see them, whatever the schedule.
Can I use an automatic car wash?
Touchless washes and a reputable hand wash are fine. GenTek's coatings resist the chemicals commercial washes use.
What about bird droppings and tree sap?
They wipe off far more easily on a coated car, and the coating is warranted against them. Remove them when you see them anyway. Left for weeks in the sun, anything will mark.
How do I stop water spots?
Dry the car after washing instead of letting it air dry, and avoid washing in full sun on a hot panel. Spots that do appear usually come off with the next wash. Stubborn ones lift with a decontamination wash.
Water isn't beading like it did. Has the coating failed?
Usually not. Reduced beading is nearly always contamination sitting on top of the coating, not the coating gone. A proper decontamination wash removes the build-up and the beading comes back. The coating keeps doing its job underneath either way.
Can a coated car still get swirl marks?
Yes, from a dirty mitt, an old chamois or brush washes. The coating resists marring, it does not make bad washing safe. Swirls are not covered by the warranty, which is why the wash routine matters.
Booking and locations
Do you come to me?
Yes. Mobile across Greater Sydney, Monday to Saturday. We need access to power and water, and we recommend a garage or undercover area if rain is likely.
Where are the workshops?
Arncliffe, St Marys, Padstow, North Strathfield, Milperra and Oran Park. We confirm the nearest one when you request a quote.
What are the hours?
The office is open Monday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm. Mobile specialists work Monday to Saturday, and the workshop specialists Monday to Friday. Enquiries during office hours are usually answered within the hour.
How do I book?
Request a quote on the site, ask the assistant in the corner, or call 1800 088 877. Tell us the car and what you want protected. A specialist comes back with a firm price and a date.
Do I need to wash the car before you come?
A normal wash helps. Every job starts with a full decontamination clean, but we ask that the car is relatively clean before we start.
What if it rains on a mobile job?
If it rains heavily on the day, we reschedule. With a garage or undercover area we can usually still get it done in light rain. You won't be charged for the weather.
Do you do fleets and work vehicles?
Yes. Utes and vans are coated at your yard or car park in the same visit, and the price list applies. Ask about several vehicles together.
Motorbikes
How much does it cost to coat a motorbike?
$595 including GST for the painted surfaces, with a lifetime warranty. Leather and vinyl care for the seat and panniers is $100 on top.
What parts of the bike get coated?
Painted tanks, fairings and side covers, tail sections, front mudguards, pannier paintwork and painted frames. Screens and matte finishes are discussed bike by bike.
Will it stop stone chips on the tank?
No. The coating resists surface abrasion, bug residue and fuel splash. It does not stop a stone.

Still have a question?
Ask the assistant in the corner, or call. The people who make the coating are the people who pick up.
